Our Son Got the IPhone He Bought Unlocked by the Carrier

Our son was saving to buy a used iPhone. I was very wary about him buying online, so I figured it would be okay to buy one from a friend of his. The friend gets all the latest things, so he was selling his old iPhone. He got a new one because the day they were released they did not have the color in stock that he wanted. Now, a couple of months later, he talked his mom into getting him the black one. Our son got a great deal on a practically new phone, but an iPhone factory unlock was needed to get it to work on our carrier.

I had never heard of such a thing. We have swapped phones around in our family even though we have relatives that use different carriers. It looks like Apple is different. They seem to lock their iPhones to the carrier, and I think it is for two full years. The phone my son bought was not under any contract. It was paid for outright. However, the phone was not purchased as unlocked. It was bought through the carrier, but it was not tied to any term length of contract or under any payment plan. They have money, and they just paid for it.

I was not making any headway with the carrier because we did not have an account with them. I found that there was a service that could do an iPhone factory unlock for a fee. We just gave them the information they needed, and then we got the phone unlocked. It was pretty easy. We still got an amazing deal on the phone even with the unlock fee. Plus, there is no monthly payments or a requirement to have a specific rate plan on the account. It is just an unlocked iPhone now on our son’s phone number. He is very happy with his new iPhone.
