I Made New Friends at the Shooting Range

When I got out of the military, I focused on finding a new place to live and another job. I had been in the military so long, that it seemed so odd to be out on my own. I felt like I was part of a strange new world, even though I had been a civilian long before I ever entered the military. Soon, I found myself missing many things that I did while serving time. For example, I missed getting to do target practice with my weapon. I went out and bought a camo rifle soon after. It was not exactly the AR-15 that I used on an ongoing basis, but I sure liked it!

After I had landed a job and found a new place, I began looking for a shooting range nearby. I found one that was less than 60 seconds from my place. What are the chances of that? I showed up with my new rifle, slipped on my headphones, and I began to practice. It felt good. I had been training with a weapon for so long that I realized that this was something that I wanted to get into as a civilian on a long-term basis. On my very first night, I learned that they have a shooting club. I had no idea that such a thing existed, but it sounded good to me. I knew that I could probably meet other like minded people there.

When I joined the club, I learned that there were other people who used to serve in the military, too. There were three guys who served in the Army, like me. And there was one female who was previously in the Marines. I got to know everyone really quickly, and they were very welcoming. We have now been friends for years.
