Do Not Ignore Squeaks Coming from Your Dryer

Our dryer started squeaking about a year ago. It was a mild sound that was occasional at first. Then it got more pronounced as time went on. When someone on the phone asked me what the squeaking sound was, I figured it was time to call a place that does appliance repair in Sacramento to fix it. If I let it go any longer, my neighbors might start complaining of the loud squeaking noise coming from our clothes dryer. We had gotten used to hearing it and pretty much ignored it. The clothes still dried just fine, so it was not really a big deal.

However, the squeak was caused by a bad bearing where the drum rotates. This caused a shift in the drum that then wore out the seal between the rotating drum and the frame of the dryer. The bearing was not expensive to replace, and the seal was not too expensive. However, we could have saved about fifty bucks in parts costs if I had called as soon as the squeak started. I should know better than to let things go. Major appliances do not make strange noises unless there is a problem with them.

This is how things can sneak up on you and cause damage. Squeaks and vibrations and other problems should be checked out no matter if they are coming from your clothes dryer, your car or even you! Our dryer runs so quiet now that I have actually opened the door to the laundry room to make sure it was running through its cycle. No one asks me on the phone any longer what that squeaking noise is. My husband asked me if the noisy bird we had has left the nest! I told him that the squeak is now coming from the passenger side front wheel of our minivan. He was not happy.
