People Still Buy and Use CB Radios

When I was a kid you had to have an FCC license to operate a CB radio. I remember that channel 9 was the emergency frequency, and you could get in a lot of trouble using it wrongly. Channel 19 was the common channel used by truck drivers. You would hear traffic reports as well as warnings about speed traps and road hazards. Drivers would tell other drivers if lights were out on their rigs and more. When I recently got a job driving truck, I checked online for CD radio reviews. I was surprised to discover that Citizen Band radios were still in use by truck drivers.

It makes sense. It is an immediate method of short range communication. (more…)

I Think Our Kids Are Under Too Much Pressure to Perform Academically

I knew there was a problem when I got home early from work one day due to heavy rains shutting down our construction project. I was in the kitchen getting something from the refrigerator when our daughter came home from school. She was slamming doors and stomping around. She was mad and I asked her what was wrong. She started crying and told me about getting a bad grade on a physics test. She has always been strong academically, and this was a big deal to her. I told her that we would get her physics tuition if she wanted it. She already had a teacher in mind.

She knew she was not understanding her physics class as well as she should, so she was already looking for some tutoring help on her own. She could not get the understanding she needed with in-school tutors, so she started looking online for physics tuition and found a highly dynamic teacher that really helps a lot of students improve their physics grades by a full two-grade increase.
